A suit is called a "suit" because each piece of the suit, suits the other. As in it is identical. For example, in a suit, the jacket matches the pants. And if there is a vest (ie: a three piece), the vest will also match the jacket and the pants.
A tuxedo jacket has satin or silk lapels, along with buttons made using the same satin or silk on the lapels. Generally the pockets are also besom and lined with the same satin or silk. Sometimes you may also see turnback sleeve cuffs made using the same satin or silk, though this is not a requirement.
When it comes to the pants for a tuxedo, they are generally black and usually have a waistband made using the same satin or silk that is used on the jacket's lapels. Additionally, you may (though not a requirement) see a side seam/line go down the pants using the same satin or silk in the rest of the outfit. The side seam is considered to be more traditional.
