Surgeon's Cuffs



Did you know that Surgeon's Cuffs, also known as "working buttons" or "functional cuffs" were originally created for doctors and dentists? In the olden days, when a doctor or dentist had to perform surgery, instead of removing their suit jacket, they would simply unbutton their sleeve buttons, their shirt cuff button, and roll up their sleeves. As suits in the late 19th century were all handmade and entirely bespoke, or custom, so as a result, all buttons were functioning and not machine sewn like a lot of off-the-rack suits are now.
