Handmade vs Handsewn Canvas
Unlike a lot of other custom and bespoke ateliers, we do not make our suits using mass production facilities. Our suits are all handmade. The only “machine” which we use is a sewing machine.

A handmade canvas. A handmade canvas is a canvas prepared beforehand, using a sewing machine, and is generally prepared in accordance with industry standard chest sizes. Industry standard sizes would be 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, etc. Once we’ve determined your chest size by having you come in for your first consultation, our tailors will then take the closest handmade canvas, and will cut it down to size. So, for example, if you have a 37” chest, we will take the 38 size canvas, and will trim it down accordingly. Why do we pre-make the canvas? It’s simple… to save time. This way, we can have your custom or bespoke suit tailored for you as quickly as possible.
A handsewn canvas. A handsewn canvas, unlike the premade handmade canvas, is cut and stitched together after your measurements are taken and your pattern is created. It is cut, based on your body measurements and posture, and is then stitched, by hand, into the suit jacket. A handsewn canvas is considered to be the epitome of bespoke tailoring. It allows for an incredible drape, especially around the chest, and it allows for the canvas to take your body’s shape as naturally as possible. A handsewn canvas can sometimes also be called a “floating canvas”.
